Howard Austin Horton was the ninth child of Samuel Horton & Ann Maria Oakley born April 14th, 1891 at Barr St, Lower Gornall, Sedgley, Staffs & christened May 6th, 1891 at St James, Lower Gornall, Staffs.
In 1901 Howard was living with his parents & 5 brothers & a sister at 33 Barr St, Lower Gornall.
Howard was still living at home in 1911, now 33 Oak Lane, Kingswinford. As well as his parents there were 2 brothers & a sister still living at home. Howard was working as a stoker at the colliery.
Howard married Mary Elizabeth Evans on January 14th, 1914 at Dudley. Mary was born March 1st, 1890, the daughter of Agnes & William Evans.
The 1939 register shows Howard & Mary & 2 children living at 22 Tansey Green, Brierley Hill where Howard was a general labourer.
Son Samuel, now married to Emily May Glover, were living nearby at 27 Tansey Green in 1939 & Samuel was a colliery boiler stoker & Emily a tile press worker. They were to have 1 daughter & 3 sons. Daughter Muriel & husband Reginald Hill, a steel erector, were living at 33 High St, Brierley Hill with 2 children in 1939.
In 1949 daughter Joyce married Calogero Cardilicchia in Rowley Regis.
Mary died on February 16th, 1960 at 22 Dreadnought Rd, Pensnett, Staffs. Administration of her estate was granted to husband Howard, a brickworks stoker, & her effects were £596.4s.4d.
Howard died on August 27th, 1963 at 22 Dreadnought Rd, Pensnett, Staffs. Probate was granted at Birmingham on January 7th, 1964 to daughter Muriel Elizabeth Hill (wife of Reginald Hill) & Harold Thomas Hyde, welder (husband of daughter Iris). His effects were £1,440.
